The last Six Sunday of 2012. Thanks for spending part of your Sunday to check out my six. Sorry to those whose sixes I didn’t comment on; was traveling from Phoenix and when I got home, had Internet trouble. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and are getting ready to ring in the new year. Now before I share my six, I wanted to mention something. Since we only have another month left of SS, I wanted to let you know that I will continue to share snippets of my novel after January. I don’t know if any of you plan to do the same, but it would be nice if we could keep the SS going. I plan to share mine on Saturdays, so for those who’ve loved my sixes follow me on Twitter as well as my blog. Likewise, I’ll do the same for you.
So this Sunday, I’m sharing a six where Cammy finally tells Ryan the truth about her dad. It’s a long story, so I’ll be using the next few Sundays to share it. In this six Cammy has just told Ryan that her dad never wanted her and Ryan thinks at first that she’s exaggerating. She speaks first:
“It’s true, my mom once told me how disappointed he was when he learned she was havin’ another girl. Ya know, he hardly held me as a baby and there ain’t any baby pictures of me with him.”
Ryan gazed at her with bulging eyes as his mouth fell open.
“Remember once watchin’ a videotape my mom made of me takin’ my first step. I was walkin’ towards my dad, who was watchin’ some shitty show on TV. When I stepped in front of him, he just picked me up and set me aside.”
Visit the Six Sunday link, for the complete list of many authors, like myself. Happy New Year!
Aww. Poor Cammy. How awful to not be wanted as a baby. I can picture her father clearly. Nice six. Thank you.
Yeah, it is. And that’s just the start, there’s more bad history.
Oh my gosh, that’s so sad. A well written six! 🙂
There’s more to the history, stay tuned.
Aw, that was mean of him!
That’s just the start, there’s more mean things he did.
Yes indeed, I kinda felt sad when I wrote that. There’s more bad things he did to her.
Glitch. Can you delete one of my comments?
OK.
“he just picked me up and set me aside”
Effective metaphor, Frank.
No doubt we’ve all “set aside” things, projects, or people for which we should have shown more interest and respect.
Great six!
P.S. I too, will continue to post on Sundays, but it will be more than six sentences. Please check my post today. fce
Oh God, Frank, that’s heartbreaking! Well done!
That’s only part of it! There’s more which I’m sure could bring the reader to tears. I’ll be sharing more next week.
Very well-written and emotional six, Frank! Nicely done!
Thanks, there’s more to come.
Oh! Poor Cammy! I just want to give her a big hug! Love her dialogue!
There’s more sad to come…save the hug for that. Glad you feel for her, I know I did when I wrote it.
That is so sad! Poor little Cammy!
Yes, and there’s more harsh things he did to her.
Interesting Six! Poor girl. I’d be mortified if my Dad didn’t want me.
That’s what I figuered, and sadly there’s more to this history.
No wonder she’s emotionally crippled.
Is anyone else having trouble using the linky list?
Yes, that’s the reaction I was aiming for. The linky list? I haven’t had any problems with it.
Poor Cammy, that’s awful. I loved Ryan’s gobsmacked reaction. I hope he can somehow help her heal from the things her dad did to her. Great 6.
I’m also planning on continuing to share short snippets at the weekend, after SS has officially ended. Looking forward to continuing to read yours 🙂
There’s more to her history…more bad things he did to her I’m afraid. Ryan does help her throughout the book, it’s sort of the theme to the story.
I’ve just come from another Six page where there was a link for people interested in keeping SSS going:

Thanks, I’ve already signed up.
Oh that’s subtly sad. Very well written.
Happy new year.
Thanks, and a Happy New Year to you too.
Damn, that’s cold. Great six, Frank. You captured all the emotion without wasting words. Nicely done. 🙂
Yes, I seem to do it better through dialogue than narrative 🙂
Really sad when parents can’t express or feel an emotional attachment to their children. You do a great job showing the long-lasting, even permanent effect it has.
OUCH. That’s brutal, but a great six!
