Here I am on Weekend Writing Warriors, the 8-10 weekly blog hop. Click on the link if you want to participate. You will also find the list of participating authors. I’m offering a snippet from The Burning Night.
Set-up: Ashley has pushed her sister’s buttons long enough, and Melissa is mad. Will we see a sisterly cat-fight? Melissa speaks first:
“You know I hate havin’ my feet tickled, why the hell do you do that?”
“Cuz you hate it, duh,” Ashley beamed.
I sprung to my feet, balling my fist as I smacked it into my palm. “I’m gonna kick your ass!”
I flexed my fingers, preparing to grab her neck and choke the life out of her. She wrapped her arms around me, giving me a big hug, and kissed my cheek. “No you won’t, you know you love me.”
Her smile and blushing cheeks instantly extinguished the fire of anger inside me. She cupped my cheek, and said, “You reeeally need to chill.”
Well, smart move on Ashley’s part, still she needs to show more respect for her big sister. I think if Melissa was back home she wouldn’t have been as sympathetic. This is the last “peaceful” scene between them before the scariness begins. I intend to share more, and next time I will share a scene between Melissa and her mother.
I’d love to know your thoughts. I will be out all day today, so please forgive me if I don’t get to reading your snippets.
Interesting melange of speech patterns–uneducated slang thrown together with the modern use of ‘chill’.
Thanks!
Aw, that was sweet. It’s hard to stay mad at bratty kid sisters when they get all huggy. 🙂
I know, Melissa’s knows it too.
I loved this snippet, Ed.Very real 🙂
Thanks Sara!
I never had a sister but oh my, I would never have tolerated that. Good writing Frank. I’m into it.
Melissa only tolerates it because she is in a vulnerable state being in a strange house.
Yup, that sounds like sisterly love to me. Great work!
Glad you agree.
Indeed it is
That’s exactly what I tell my sister when she asks me why I annoy her so much. *grin* great snippet, Frank!
I wonder if she’s as forgiving as Melissa.
Awww, I like the way she ended the little tiff. Hugs are always a good thing!
Ashley knows how to cool Melissa down.
Hah! “You know you love me,” I’ve said that once or twice to a family member, while trying to avoid retribution. 🙂
I bet you have.
This sounds so much like my brother and I when I used to come home from college. (Heck, the words are different, but the “game” is the same one my son plays when I am trying to get things done and he’s supposed to be helping.)
Many siblings do this, that’s why so many can relate to it.
Come on, don’t get so angry over tickles, lol.
Melissa should not be so angry, but that’s the way she is.
You definitely have the sister’s attitudes with one another down packed. Great snippet! 🙂
I’m glad I’ve got them down right.
Hehehe… great sisterly spat here. Totally me and my sis. 🙂
I’m glad I’ve made this realistic, and that you can relate to it.
Enjoyed the post. Good imagery and angst with wrapping fingers around her throat and choking the life out of her.
