Weekend Writing Warriors/#Snippet Sunday – The Question

Welcome to the weekly 8-10 sentence blog hop hosted by Weekend Writing Warriors. Click on the link for the official list of participating writers to get your fix of snippets. I’m also participating on Facebook’s Snippet Sunday. Thanks for visiting my blog!

I’m continuing from my WIP, Driving Me Wild.  We’re into a different chapter of the story. Melissa is texting what will soon be her new boyfriend, Logan, via a dating app (they haven’t met in person yet) while shopping in a grocery store. At this point they are getting to know each other. One question catches Melissa off guard, resulting in a faux pas. Creative punctuation has been used to meet the sentence limit. Enjoy:

I wince as the sound of cans clanking into metal carts and whining kids break my concentration. I pass the dairy section, my face glued to my phone, earning me ‘hey, watch where you’re goings’ from shoppers.

Another question flashes on the screen as I enter the beverage aisle, asking me if I’m ticklish and accompanied by a winking emoji.

I stub my toes on a stack of boxed soda cans, yelp and hop on one foot, winning a cackle and teasing gestures from a couple of small kids.

I shift away from them, grimacing until the pain subsides.

“Oh no,” I moan as I read Logan’s question. My nerves rush like rapids because my feet are extremely ticklish, and one brush with a feather is more than enough to make me squeal and twitch.

Just great, I finally meet a decent guy on this site, and he’s tickle-happy.

Three and a half years of random, relentless tickling by my ex is enough, so I end up texting Logan I’m not. “Wait, what I’m I doin’?”

Lying to someone you haven’t even met? Not good! Unfortunately, this isn’t the only time Melissa lies in the story. Still, a little humor helps with the COVID-19 situation. Constructive feedback is always appreciated!

I have some happy news to report during these uncertain times. After a couple of months of studying, I passed my travel counselor’s exam this week. This means I can legally sell travel services in my province. I used to be in the travel industry, and I want to return to it after this whole thing calms down.

Happy Sunday!
