Weekend Writing Warriors – Please Go Away!

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors. Click on the link for the official list of participating writers. You’ll also find me on Facebook’s Snippet Sunday. Thanks for visiting my blog! Today is particularly special for the first time ever, this week’s edition coincides with my birthday today!

I’m sharing an excerpt from my WIP, Driving Me Wild.  We continue a few lines from last week’s snippet.

Melissa is in her room, trying to take a nap, when her sister, Ashley, knocks on her door. Melissa doesn’t appreciate being disturbed as she needs rest before her date with Logan.

The snippet begins with Melissa reacting to Ashley disturbing her. Creative punctuation has been used to meet the sentence limit.  Here we go!

“Geez maneez, what part of ‘do not disturb’ didn’t ya understand?!”

My door creaks open as feet shuffling across my carpet fills the air. “Hey, I did get a C minus in English,” Ashley chirps with a cackle.

What gives? I never bother her when she’s trying to take a nap.

She pulls up my chair beside my bed, facing me. “The hell happened to you?”

I grunt and answer, “Let’s just say Mike has, like, more energy than the Road Runner, and that playin’ basketball in flip-flops sucks!”

            Another cackle sails my way.

“Get lost,” I hiss, “can’t you see I’m tryin’ get a little beauty rest?”

Better do what she says, Ashley! Have some sympathy, will ya? And note that Mike is the name of the boy Melissa babysits (they have a great relationship). I will likely share a snippet from a different chapter next time. Thoughts and feedback are most welcome!

I will be doing the best I can do enjoy my birthday. Intending to do Japanese takeout and later smoke a birthday stogy! I’ll make sure to stop by your blogs today, as well! In other happy news, this time next week I will be moving into my new condo!

Here’s to another Sunday!

Weekend Writing Warriors/#SnippetSunday – Pesky Sister

Another week of the COVID-19 pandemic gone by! Now it’s time to get your snippet fixings from Weekend Writing Warriors. Click on the link for the official list of participating writers. You’ll also find me on Facebook’s Snippet Sunday. Thanks for visiting my blog!

Continuing from my WIP, Driving Me Wild.  This snippet picks up from last week’s last line: “Ash, you lay one finger on me, and I’ll-”

Let’s see what Ashley does. Creative punctuation has been used to meet the sentence limit.  Here we go!

She does a butt-drop on my legs, pinning them down, and then begins tickling my feet.

I explode into a storm of squealing and writhing.

“Who is he, Melissaaaa?”

I hammer her back with my fist as her fingernails relentlessly brush the bottoms of my feet, but she just ignores it. “S-s-stop, yo-you little brat, I-I-I’m gonna kill you!”

“I don’t think sooooo,” she flutes.

Every nerve ending in my feet goes wild like the crowd at Paul Brown after a Bengals touchdown, keeping me from getting her off.

I’m laughing so much that my lungs struggle to get oxygen. “I-I can’t bre-bre-breathe, le-le-lemmie go, you bitch!”

She giggles and tickles in between the balls and toes, sending me into a deeper gale of laughter and flailing as I repeatedly pound one of the throw pillows.

Oh that pesky Ashley, and poor Melissa! You may recall in a previous snippet that she mentioned how ticklish she is. And looks like she wasn’t kidding! How much longer can she hold out?

Your feedback is most welcome and appreciated. In return, I will snippets and offer comments. Have a great weekend!

Weekend Writing Warriors – Sibling Revenge!

shade

Hello and Dzien dobry! as they say in here in Poland! Thanks for visiting my blog. The weekly blog hop is hosted by Weekend Writing Warriors. Click on the link for participating guidelines and the official list of Writing Warriors.

I present an excerpt from Love Conquers, my YA WIP. This snippet picks up several lines from the previous one. Having been summoned to the kitchen by her dad, Melissa walks and lets her sister have it for sneaking into her room and teasing her. It’s what she did in the last snippet I shared. Creative punctuation has been used to fit the 10-sentence limit, and is in Melissa’s POV:

Ashley and my dad turn to me as I enter the kitchen. Ashley is perched on the kitchen island, swinging her legs, and thumbs working away on her smartphone.

I slam a balled fist into her arm as I pass her as she flashes me a smug-filled smile.

“Ow, what the fuck was that for?!”

“Melissa, what on earth has gotten into you?” Dad demands, jerking his coffee mug.

“She snuck into my room while I was sleepin’ scared the shit outta me,” I protest, pointing to the cause of my morning misery. “That’s the third time this week! Tell her to stop!”

His eyes shoot over to my little sister. “Ashley, did you tease your sister, again?”

Typical sibling rivalry! For those of you who’ve been in Dad’s situation, you can appreciate and understand! Your thoughts and feedback are most welcome! I’m visiting a mutual friend in Warsaw today, so I won’t be able to respond to comments until later.

On a personal note, I have been settling into my new life in Poland. It’s been a learning curve adjusting to a new culture, language as well as the new job! I have to admit it has been very stressful and challenging, but overall I am enjoying being abroad and glad I took this plunge. I’ve always wanted to teach abroad, and now I’m doing it!

Have a good weekend! Do widzenia!
